About RAK

Meet RAK

The emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, affectionately called RAK for short, is home to a fifty-fifty Emirati/expat population, all of whom enjoy the tightknit community feel and slower pace of living RAK has to offer. Particularly attractive is RAK's landscape. It's not just desert and coast, RAK also boasts the tallest mountain in the UAE, Jebel Jais, and a natural creek running through its capital. Jebel Jais is actually part of a large mountain-range, Ru'us Al Jibal of the Hajar Mountains, so the activities on offer include hiking, climbing, and off- and on-road driving. Throughout history, RAK has been an important trading center due to its prominent position on the Persian Gulf. Its rich past becomes particularly apparent during a (highly recommended) visit to the National Museum of Ras Al Khaima – a building which housed the Royal Family until 1964.

Visiting RAK

The above-mentioned activities aren't the only things you can do while in RAK. Ras Al Khaimah offers its visitors some of the best experiences in the UAE. On water there is sailing, water skiing, jet skiing, parasailing, fishing, and scuba diving. On land, you can enjoy golf, horseback-riding, falconry shows, Saqr Park, bowling, tennis, and archery. And, if you want to take to the air, there are lightweight airplanes, powered parachutes, and sea-plane tours waiting for you. Should you prefer to indulge in a bit of retail therapy, RAK's many shopping malls cater to your desires and, come lunch or dinner time, meals can be taken there or at the beautiful Cove Rotana Resort, the prestigious Ras Al Khaimah Country Club, or the luxurious Al Hamra Marina & Yacht Club.

Living In RAK

Dubai and Abu Dhabi aren't the only places for expats in the UAE. Ras Al Khaimah's expat community is established and close. It's the kind of place where you get to know your neighbors and often end up being friends with them. Whether you're at the beach, by the pool, or on the golf course, it's easy to socialize and meet people in RAK. Diverse types of accommodation are available and more affordable than in Dubai or Abu Dhabi – many expats opt to buy in popular areas like Al Hamra Village or Mina Al Arab. After that, it's just a matter of settling in and enjoying yourself!
