The Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Committee of RAK College of Dental Sciences marked Global Handwashing Day 2026 on October 15th , 2026 with an awareness event for students, interns, faculty, staff, and patients. IPC student monitor volunteers supported the event activities.
A handwashing poster and Global Handwashing Day content displayed on the LED screen provided visual reminders about the importance of hand hygiene. A themed photo area and five hand hygiene badge designs encouraged participation. An interactive “Pick a Card, answer a Question: Be a Handwashing Hero!” quiz provided an opportunity to revisit essential hand hygiene principle and practices. A QR code also directed participants to the official UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) webpage, providing access to its educational content on Global Handwashing Day and the importance of handwashing. The quiz winner was selected by draw and was presented with a certificate, and a gift.
To extend learning beyond the event, a hand hygiene fact sheet was circulated to the college community in connection with the event, providing a reference on correct hand hygiene practices.
The event aimed to strengthen hand hygiene awareness, encourage active learning, and reinforce the role of good hand hygiene in infection prevention and patient safety.
